Prepping to give a class on Covey’s seven habits for tomorrow. Every time I pick up that book, it seems like I gain something from it. I developed a much better understanding the first time I was asked to present the seven habits and learn more every time since.

This evening during my review / rehearsal it occurred to me that this process was actually practicing habit #7 — Sharpening the Saw! After I thought of it, it seemed obvious. Even so, I put a great deal of effort to practice these habits and pay particular attention to the last one.

A small insight perhaps, but valuable to me. I shouldn’t have been surprised by this. One of the developmental tools I’ve used for years in the Army was to ask a junior leader to research and give a presentation on a topic. When you realize you’re going to be standing in front of a group of people presenting, it provides next level motivation to learn!

That was my leadership moment today.
